Scheduling Practice Ice during Nationals in January

We would like to welcome all skaters competing in the US Figure Skating Championships in Omaha this January. We are offering unofficial practice ice for those who are interested in skating on our Club freestyle ice.  Freestyle sessions will be open to any level of singles skaters, Juvenile/Intermediate Dance teams, and Junior/Intermediate Pairs teams.  Due to high demand, we strongly encourage all skaters (both Club members and non-Club members) to schedule their practice ice in advance.  During the dates of January 16-25, ice will be available for purchase in 30-minute increments on weekday mornings from 5:30-9:00 am, Monday evening from 5-6:30 pm, and Saturday morning from 8-10 am. Practice ice will be available on a first come, first served basis.  If you are interested in scheduling practice ice or would like more information, please contact Toni Lundak by email at btlundak@cox.net or by phone at 402-384-8358.

Want to learn how to ice skate?  Our next session of skating lessons begins on January 5th!  Download the registration form and mail it in or return it to our learn to skate desk to reserve a spot in one of our classes.  This is our busiest session of the year, so we highly recommend pre-registration!  We have classes on Monday evenings, 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings, 10:15-11:15 a.m.

For skaters who are ready for a more challenging class, our Rising Stars classes for levels Basic 6 through Freeskate 6 are also available on Saturdays from 11:15-12:35 p.m.  Class size is limited, so please download the registration form and return it to us promptly.

Signup NOW to volunteer at Nationals!

The Omaha Sports Commission and U.S. Figure Skating are still recruiting volunteers for both the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships as well as the Juvenile and Intermediate events.  Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers are needed for several positions.  Deadline for club members to sign up is January 7th, so if you are interested, please read the information below and click on the link to register and reserve your volunteer times.

Due to high interest from the local community, it is recommended that you register early to guarantee being assigned to an area in which you are interested during times you are available. Volunteer positions are needed for Accreditation, Copy Center, Fan Fest, Hospitality, Snowplow Sam, and Volunteer Support. Please read the list of requirements posted on the main page before you begin the registration process.  You may register online now by following the link below.

Online Volunteer Registration

Volunteers are also needed for Practice Announcers, Practice Music, and Ice Monitors, but require a special online code.  If you are interested in volunteering for the positions requiring an access code, please contact Paula Turpen directly.  The online volunteer registration system for all positions will close on January 7, 2013.

There is also an opportunity for Club volunteers to sell programs in the concourse area.  This is a very special volunteer position and applicants must be 18 years of age or older.  For the access code and more information on this volunteering opportunity, please contact Misty Banks Noon.

Finally, our club will need volunteers for the booth and on-ice activities at Fanfest, which will be held Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 am to 7 pm.  We will need both adult volunteers and club skaters for these activities!  If you are a club member interested in assisting us with these special activities, please contact Misty Banks Noon or Jennie Caplinger.

Thank you again for your willingness to participate in such an exciting event!
