Intro to Private Lessons

Private lessons are a great way for your recreational or competitive skater to receive one-on-one instruction from one of our highly trained FSCO Professional Coaching Staff members.  A skater may start private lessons at any level and age.  Private lessons can benefit skaters by helping them progress at a faster pace, prepare them for beginner level competitions, or even help skaters prepare for test days.  Lessons are normally taught in 20 or 30 minute increments and need to be scheduled directly with the Professional Coach of your choice.  Prices for each coach vary, but generally range from $10-20 per 20 minutes of lesson time. Our Professional Coaches have a 24 hour lesson cancellation policy that should be discussed prior to starting lessons.

Below are questions parents should ask themselves and their child before contacting a coach for private lessons:

  1. What are my child’s skating goals?
  2. How often can my child skate?
  3. How much can we budget toward ice time and private lesson time?
  4. Does the skater have a favorite teacher from Learn to Skate?
  5. Does this coach’s personality and teaching methods match the skater’s individual instructional needs?

Here are suggestions for questions to ask the prospective coach:

  1. What is your coaching experience?
  2. What is your hourly coaching rate?
  3. How is payment made?
  4. What is your cancellation policy?
  5. How often would my child need lessons?
  6. What is your skating experience?
